THE OBJET

2011

Jeju, South Korea

Overview

Inspired by the vitality of Jeju’s natural “lungs”—the Gotjawal forest and Soomgol (volcanic air vents)—this project transcends conventional residential design to become a monumental architectural sculpture. Conceived as a high-end gallery house, it offers ownership as a form of artistic pride, merging Jeju’s natural beauty and geological identity with a contemporary lifestyle. The result is a one-of-a-kind Maison created exclusively for VVIP clients seeking true rarity.

Urban & Architectural Concept

The design introduces the “Sound Box” concept, echoing the resonance of the forest, alongside a semi-open architectural structure that visualizes the breathing of the Soomgol. On the ground level, large framing elements and water features dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, drawing in the rhythms of nature. The upper level’s circular windows create intimate, contemplative private spaces. Together, these elements form a synesthetic healing environment where wind, light, and sound flow seamlessly through space, achieving a profound unity between architecture and nature.

Business Vision & Philosophy

While fully functional as a residence, the project is realized as architecture-as-objet, elevating real estate value into the realm of collectible art. Storytelling rooted in Jeju’s unique originality, combined with its powerful sculptural presence, offers residents a true sanctuary of retreat. Designed to gain value over time, it stands as a timeless landmark defined by rarity, artistry, and enduring significance.
