GGAC JIP - 45A TYPE
2011
Jeju, South Korea
Overview
Ggac Jip is a compact housing concept developed by Planning Korea as part of the Jeju Airest City master plan. Designed for young creatives and cultural migrants attracted to Jeju’s natural environment, the project consists of small residential units inspired by the island’s iconic basalt column formations (get-ggac). Organized around a pedestrian-oriented “Market Walk,” Ggac Jip proposes a community-focused alternative to conventional resort housing.

Urban & Architectural Concept
The project responds sensitively to Jeju’s landscape by following the site’s natural topography and reinterpreting traditional settlement patterns. The architectural forms echo the vertical rhythm of basalt columns, creating a strong connection between nature and the built environment. A variety of unit types and configurations supports both privacy and social interaction within a human-scaled residential setting.
Business Vision & Philosophy
Ggac Jip envisions housing as part of a self-sustaining lifestyle ecosystem, where living, creative work, and small-scale business coexist. Integrated into the larger Jeju Airest City development, the project reflects a broader philosophy of blending creative industry and leisure, positioning Jeju as a destination for both living and working.
