AK PLAZA
2015
Yongin, South Korea
Overview
This project repositions AK Group—whose innovative DNA has driven expansion from consumer goods into aviation and retail—by combining its strengths with the potential of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Moving beyond a conventional shopping mall, it was conceived as a trend-driven Lifestyle Platform, leveraging the strong sense of place and high foot traffic of a major transit hub to lead evolving consumer culture and establish a new local landmark with curated retail experiences.
Urban & Architectural Concept
Reinterpreting the contextual identity of a railway station through a contemporary lens, the design ensures spatial continuity with the existing station architecture. Rather than imposing a massive mall structure, a human-scale “Market Street” concept was introduced, creating a vibrant, multi-layered environment that encourages natural circulation and moments of serendipitous encounter.

Business Vision & Philosophy
To respond to fast-changing retail trends, the project strategically adopts flexible graphic systems and seasonal VMD frameworks instead of fixed interiors. This approach enables the space to transform instantly with events and seasons, creating one of the most dynamic retail environments while minimizing physical renovation costs and delivering a consistently fresh customer experience—establishing the platform as a sustainable trend setter.
