LIBRARY PENTHOUSE
2006
Changwon, South Korea
Overview
Changwon, Korea’s first planned industrial city modeled after Sophia Antipolis in France, is home to a strong concentration of advanced manufacturing SMEs. This project specifically targeted SME CEOs who must continuously study and innovate to grow their businesses. Rather than a residence that simply showcases wealth, it was conceived as a new housing model that fosters intellectual growth while supporting a balanced family life.
Urban & Architectural Concept
The project presents a bold, future-oriented architectural vision beyond conventional mixed-use developments.
-
Vertical Zoning & Integration:
Lower levels are designed as terrace houses, maximizing comfort and a connection to nature, while upper levels integrate luxury apartments with private library spaces, creating independent penthouse environments for focused work and study. -
Innovative Spatial Design:
A tower form with a dramatic void space, geometrically patterned lobbies maximizing natural light, and premium amenities such as panoramic-view pools establish a refined, CEO-level living environment.

Business Vision & Philosophy
The project’s key innovation lies in integrating lifestyle and philosophy (“the learning CEO”) into real estate development.
-
Content-Driven Luxury:
Going beyond the limitations of the 2006 regional housing market, it introduced a pioneering model focused on intellectual exchange and relaxation rather than purely physical luxury. -
An Unrealized Role Model:
Although never completed due to financial challenges, it remains a strong conceptual benchmark, demonstrating how highly targeted, niche high-end residential developments can be strategically designed.
