SEOUL WIKI ISLAND
(Nodeul Dream Island)
2015
Seoul, South Korea
Overview
Selected as the First-Round Winning Entry in the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Nodeulseom Specialized Design Competition, this project proposes a future-oriented urban platform that introduces a “Virtuous Cycle Sharing Economy” to Nodeul Island—formerly an isolated urban fragment—thereby presenting a new paradigm for urban regeneration. Conceived under the concept of “Wiki Island,” the project is designed to evolve through citizen participation, much like Wikipedia—open, editable, and continuously shaped by its users. By leveraging Nodeul Island’s strategic location between Gangnam and Gangbuk, the master plan transforms a disconnected site into a “Cultural Bridge” of communication and creativity, reconnecting the urban fabric of Seoul.
Urban & Architectural Concept
Architecturally embodying the “Wiki” concept of collective intelligence, the project creates an “Open Island Village” where citizens freely exchange ideas and actively produce culture. Through spatial design that fuses human aesthetics (art), natural philosophy (environment), and advanced technology (tech), the island transcends the notion of a conventional park and becomes an “Experimental Stage”—a testing ground for creative seeds destined to become future cultural assets. This results in a unique architectural ecosystem where urban nature, cutting-edge technology, and human sensibility coexist in dynamic balance at the heart of the city.

Business Vision & Philosophy
A startup incubating ecosystem is established to enable young creators to build self-sustaining businesses grounded in the fundamentals of everyday life—living, working, and creating. Rather than a space defined solely by consumption, the project secures sustainability through an economic model in which production and consumption form a continuous cycle. As an evolving shared platform that articulates Seoul’s future urban vision, the project functions as both a landmark of youth culture and a hub of future-oriented value creation, where cultural energy and urban vitality are perpetually regenerated.
